About Us

The Bathmate brand was born in 2004 when the inventor, Mr John Oakes, developed a hydrotherapy pump to help a disabled friend. John, a young award winning engineer and extreme sports enthusiast, had a friend who due to a spinal injury sustained rock-climbing, was confined to a wheelchair. An unfortunate effect of this injury was that it left him unable to gain or maintain an erection. John reviewed the air-vacuum pumps available at the time, and determined that he could do better.

The key to John’s success was to discard the concept of an air-based pump and opt for a hydraulic solution. John gave one of the prototype Hydropumps to his friend and they were both astonished at the results, which were nothing short of amazing, but there was also a serendipitous [unexpected?] discovery waiting for John.

In the course of the development of the Hydropump, John had tried out some of the prototypes on himself. As a keen weight lifter he had noticed that after a strenuous work-out, whilst his body was “pumped-up”, his penis sometimes appeared a little “deflated”. When he tested the Hydropump in the shower after a work-out he saw an immediate change as the Hydropump restored the flow of oxygen rich blood to his penis. He also saw that with continued use over time, that his erections became firmer and that there was a noticeable increase in size.

It appeared that John had not only invented a device that was a benefit to his friend, but one that had would prove to be beneficial to men everywhere. So the Bathmate Hydropump was born. John named his original Hydropump “Hercules” and formed a company to further develop and manufacture this innovation.

The Bathmate Hercules was launched onto the market in 2006, and its larger brother the Goliath, the largest Hydropump in the world, in 2008. In 2012 the second generation Hydropumps were brought to the market, beginning with the Hydromax X30. This latest Hydropump was a direct development of the original, but utilized a new bellows design, new materials, featured a new valve and removable comfort pads. At 35% more power than the original Hercules, it was both the most effective and safest penile enhancement pump in the world, and became an immediate best seller. The X30 was followed in 2013 by the larger Hydromax X40, and shortly afterwards the “super pumps”, the Xtreme X30 and X40.

The rapid growth of the company and success of the Bathmate brand Hydropumps prompted an investment of £1 million in a new dedicated factory and by the end of 2013 Bathmate Hydropumps were being sold in over 70 different countries worldwide, both the products and the company being in receipt of industry awards for innovation and design. Bathmate is recognised as a truly global brand and is the number one penile enhancement device.

“Unlike air, hydraulic pressure is more uniform and controllable and this is the key to the success of the Hydropump.
Water provides natural support and has a gentle cushioning effect which provides reliable and consistent results.”
